"We typically do not do vineyard designated wines even when we are sourcing a particular wine from a single vineyard. I believe a vineyard designate should be reserved for a consistently unique wine from a consistently unique site and that this is a rare event. The use of vineyard designates by marketing departments to fetch higher dollars per bottle is unforgiveable. This said, our first offering from the Treborce Vineyard on the upper East bench of the Dry Creek Valley is also our first vineyard designated Zinfandel. The Treborce site on the upper bench lifts it above the fog and provides a more rocky terrain for growing grapes. The result is a wine that has the rich and ripe fruit that the Dry Creek Valley is known for, but with more depth and length and a structure that is unusual for Zinfandel. The Hobo Zins in general tend to have a lot of structure for Zinfandels, but this wine, like the Rockpile Zin, take it a little further and might even age well.'

'The Vineyard is farmed by Bob and Joyce Littell and they must realize that they are living on a special piece of property because they spare no expense and save no effort to see that everything that can possibly be done to make the fruit better is done.'

'At the winery, we destemmed without crushing into open-top fermentors with about 10% whole clusters thrown in. Fermentation went smooth and finished in barrel along with the Malolactic. Aged in French Oak, 40% new." KL
